BBQ-K – Springvale – buffet Korean barbecue restaurant

Venturing into BBQ-K on a bustling Friday night, I found myself immediately immersed in the sense that Springvale Road in Springvale’s central business district was changing from a dimly lit road to a place brimming with restaurants, lights and late night establishments. I think it’s a great thing. Having experienced this chain in Glen Waverley which you can read here, I was very interested to see what BBQ-K promised with its all-you-can-eat experience. The Glen Waverley branch is not all-you-eat.

Nestled in the heart of Springvale, BBQ-K offers a buffet-style dining experience that allows patrons to indulge in a plethora of dishes, from self cooked sizzling meats and seafood to sushi and fried chicken. With options for both 1.5-hour and 2-hour bookings, it’s best to gather your crew before starting the clock.

HighlightsBBQ-K is an all-you-can-eat experience for around $50 per person for a 1.5 hour diner session> I preferred this version of BBQ-K than the one in Glen Waverley, purely because this is an all-you-can-eat for a similar price to what I paid for al la carte. The selection of uncooked and cooked items was pretty good. I’d recommend getting some nearly marbled beef and giving their flavoured fried chicken, beef brisket, and beef miso soup a try.

At $50 per person for a 1.5-hour session on a Friday night, BBQ-K offers a decent selection of options from uncooked meats and seafoods to fried chicken and sushi. This restaurant is one that requires an advance reservation since it’s usually quite busy on a Friday night.

Upon entering the restaurant, I was struck by its somewhat chic setup, with each table resembling a cozy cubicle equipped with a hot plate at its center and servers that assist with cleaning and setting up the hot plate.

In terms of food offerings, there is ample selection of uncooked beef and seafood—including crab, scallops, fish, and calamari—to portions of pork and chicken ready for grilling, there’s something to satisfy every palate. The buffet spread also features a variety of simple sushi rolls, hot meals in bain-maries like japchae, fried chicken, tteokbokki, noodles, and seaweed rolls. I’d recommend grabbing some of the fried chicken, especially when they just top it up with the new batch.

For those craving lighter fare, BBQ-K offers a selection of salads and soups, including beef miso soup and pork kimchi soup. Additionally, a sauce station allows diners to customize their creations with options like honey mustard, Korean barbecue sauce, chili sauce, sesame sauce, sweet chili, mayonnaise, and a salt and pepper mix.

To round off the options, BBQ-K provides a station for instant noodles, cold noodles, tea, Korean instant coffee, and an ice cream freezer with a variety of different frozen treats, ensuring that no craving goes unfulfilled.

All in all, there was a really decent selection of beefs (which is the main reason for coming), some hot foods which were tasty like their beef brisket and pork miso, their sushi was good, and their sauce selection – while not large – was sufficient. Plus the cooking experience was okay, except they only provided one pair of tongs and scissors. And on the night at least they were very quick to offer to clean the hot plate every now and then.
