Cijin Island – Kaohsiung- getting there by ferry
Cijin Island is an absolute must-visit when in Kaohsiung. After landing at Taoyuan International Airport, we headed directly to Kaohsiung via the High Speed Rail, arriving at Zuoying Station and taking the Red Metro Line to our hotel. From there, getting to Cijin was straightforward and absolutely worth it.

To reach the island, we took a ferry from the Gushan Ferry Pier — a much better option than KW2. Gushan only costs NTD$30 per adult, runs more frequently, and carries both passengers and scooters. It also has a charming restaurant serving Japanese food. KW2, while more modern and less crowded, is pricier (NTD$80) and lacks the same frequency and character. Both ferries take about 15 minutes to reach the island.
Cijin itself is packed with things to do — beaches, local food streets, historical sites, scenic lookouts, and great trekking options. Renting a tuk tuk was a highlight and a fun way to get around the island comfortably with kids.
We spent hours exploring and soaking in the relaxed coastal vibe. It’s a great escape from the bustle of the city and very family-friendly. Just be prepared for crowds at Gushan Ferry if you go during peak times.
