Khaosan Lane – Melbourne – an exciting Thai joint in a busy CBD alleyway
Khaosan Lane is located in the Melbourne GPO laneway, it is a surprisingly great location just off Bourke Street where the flagship Myer and David Jones department stores are located. This laneway has seen some businesses come and go following Covid-19 lockdowns, so it is always a nice surprise whenever a decent restaurant/café rears its head. Khaosan Lane is a place for a quick Thai lunch with friends and colleagues over a plated meal.

I’m always on the lookout for a place that does a quick, delicious and affordable lunch option. Khaosan Lane comes pretty close to doing all three things well having had pleasant experiences each visit.
Khoasan Lane is a place where you find your own table, serve yourself water and cutlery, and order using the QR code on the table. It’s a pretty run of the mill place, with an approach similar to experiences you’d see in parts of Bangkok when visiting restaurants (minus the QR code and probably more servers).

Scrolling through the menu on the phone was easy. Each option offered a salivating invitation to make a repeat visit.
I opted for the Roast Pork and Barbecue Pork on Rice for $18.90. It also came with cucumber, soft-boiled egg, peppery soup, and sweet soy with chili sauce. It was a fantastic combination on a plate thanks to the tender barbecue pork and crispy skin pork under a delicious sweet red glaze. The soup was a nice, strong peppery soup which topped off the experience. I honestly was surprised by the amount of things on the plate, all done fantastically well, and at an affordable price.
