A Location That Could Not Be More Convenient
Accessibility matters when choosing a place to eat, especially when you want something delicious after work or before catching a train. Sixteen H sits directly across from Murrumbeena Station, making it ideal for both locals and visitors arriving by public transport. The street also has ample parking nearby, so there is no headache about where to leave the car.

Neerim Road has developed into a mini dining strip over the years, with cafes and small eateries lining the street. Sixteen H blends right into this community atmosphere while adding its own multicultural flavour to the suburb.
The Concept
A Fusion of Cultures With Authentic Taste
According to the restaurantโs website, Sixteen H aims to showcase the rich flavours of Malaysia, Sichuan Province, and Guangdong Province all within one dining experience. Their mission is to bring together:
- Spicy and fragrant Malaysian dishes
- Bold and exciting Sichuan flavours
- Elegant and delicate Cantonese cuisine
- Classic dim sum offerings prepared traditionally
What makes this approach appealing is that the menu does not feel like a gimmicky fusion mixed for novelty. Instead, it is built around dishes with strong heritage, cooked by chefs who are familiar with the authentic ingredients and techniques that give these styles their identity.
The website also highlights a focus on quality, friendly service, and an elegant setting designed for both casual catch ups and family gatherings. All of that was reflected in our dining experience.
First Impressions and Atmosphere
Cosy, Warm, and Family Friendly
When you walk into Sixteen H, the first thing you notice is how inviting the space feels. The restaurant is decorated with a comfortable, modern Asian aesthetic that complements the cuisine beautifully. It is not overly fancy, yet it presents itself with care and attention to detail. Lighting is warm, seating is comfortable, and the noise level remains calm even when tables are full.
It is the kind of restaurant where you can enjoy your meal slowly, catch up with friends, and appreciate the experience without feeling rushed. Families will also appreciate the relaxed layout, making it easy to bring children along.
That combination of cosiness and subtle elegance creates an atmosphere that works well for any casual dining occasion.
Service That Sets a High Standard
One of the standout aspects of Sixteen H is the service. The staff are welcoming from the moment you arrive and remain attentive throughout the meal. They are knowledgeable about the dishes, happy to answer questions, and quick to provide recommendations if you are unsure what to order.
There is a genuine friendliness to the service that enhances the meal without becoming overbearing. It feels like you are being looked after in a way that you might expect from a favourite neighbourhood restaurant, which makes returning an easy decision.
The Menu
Affordable, Generous, and Packed With Flavour
Sixteen H offers a wide selection of Malaysian and Chinese favourites. From stir fried noodles and rice dishes, to spicy soups and Cantonese classics, there is something for every preference. The prices are surprisingly reasonable for the quality and portion size, especially considering how large some dishes can be.
During our visit we ordered:
- Wan Tan Hor Fun for $18.8
- Braised Beef Brisket Noodles for $17.5
Both dishes exceeded expectations.
Wan Tan Hor Fun
Silky Noodles With Incredible Egg Gravy
Hor Fun is a beloved Malaysian classic and a strong indicator of whether a restaurant takes its wok technique seriously. This dish arrived steaming hot, with wonderfully fresh flat rice noodles coated in a thick egg gravy. The sauce had layers of flavour, savoury and moreish, with that slight smokiness that comes from a well seasoned wok.
It was comforting, satisfying, and very well executed. Every bite delivered the kind of flavour that makes you stop talking to appreciate it. For anyone who loves Malaysian noodles, this is a dish worth returning for.

Braised Beef Brisket Noodles
Rich Soup and Tender Meat With a Subtle Herbal Finish
The Braised Beef Brisket Noodles were equally impressive. The broth was deep and savoury with an umami richness that came from mushrooms and slow cooked brisket. There was a light herbal quality to the soup, offering an aromatic lift without veering into bitterness or medicinal flavours. It was balanced, warming, and delicious.
The beef was tender and absorbed the broth beautifully. Combined with the noodles, it created a dish that felt hearty and nourishing, the type of meal you crave on a cool day.

Portion Sizes That Go Beyond Expectations
Many restaurants are reducing serving sizes as costs continue to climb, but Sixteen H offers portions that feel genuinely generous. You leave satisfied, not searching the dessert menu for extra calories to make up for a tiny main.
That alone makes the prices feel very fair. When you add the quality of ingredients and precise cooking, the value becomes exceptional. It is rare to find such strong performance in both taste and affordability these days, especially in Melbourne.
Dim Sum and Broader Menu Appeal
Although we focused on noodle dishes during this visit, Sixteen Hโs dim sum offerings give diners additional versatility. From dumplings to buns and fried snacks, there are plenty of options for shared dining or casual brunch style eating.
The Malaysian menu items also include favourites like:
- Char Kway Teow
- Hainanese Chicken
- Curry Laksa
- Nasi Lemak
Meanwhile, the Chinese and Cantonese side of the menu features familiar comfort dishes such as:
- Sweet and Sour Pork
- Mapo Tofu
- Stir fried vegetables
- Claypot favourites
This diversity means you can visit multiple times and still find new dishes to enjoy. It also makes it easy to dine with friends who have different tastes or dietary needs.
A New Local Favourite Worth Returning To
We left Sixteen H feeling extremely satisfied. It is rare to stumble upon a restaurant that ticks so many boxes at once. Great flavours, excellent service, large portions, and very reasonable pricing create a combination that gives this place long term potential as a neighbourhood favourite.
It feels like a hidden gem that more people deserve to discover, especially those who love Southeast Asian cuisine and want an authentic experience without needing to travel into the CBD.
We would absolutely return, and next time we will be exploring even more of the menu.
Final Verdict
Sixteen H Murrumbeena Impresses With Flavour, Value, and Warm Hospitality
This restaurant understands what makes comfort food so beloved. Every dish bursts with flavour, and every interaction with the staff builds a connection that leaves you wanting to return. It is the kind of venue you recommend to friends not just because the food is good, but because the overall experience leaves a genuinely positive impression.
If you are in the south eastern suburbs or passing through Murrumbeena by train, give Sixteen H a visit. You will be pleasantly surprised by the delicious food, fair pricing, and homely feel.
This is easily one of the better Asian dining options in the area, and a place that deserves to thrive.
