The Original Katong Laksa Since 1950s (Janggut Laksa) – Singapore – with a carefully made soup base and sambal chili
Singapore’s food industry is competitive and the customer feedback can be brutal, but it means that the best of the best restaurants can branch out as franchises. The Original Katong Laksa Since 1950s (Janggut Laksa) is one such franchise which has managed to spread throughout the entire city-state with their famous laksa.
The secret to a good laksa is its soup base, which requires a lot of patience and meticulous, labor intensive effort. I have made it myself and know that its a time consuming process. The Original Katong Laksa Since 1950s (Janggut Laksa) manages to craft a carefully made soup base and also a well made sambal chili.
Their famous Janngut Laksa starts at SG$5.50 for a regular bowl and $7.50 for a large.
The soup, the coconut cream and ingredients are comforting and in fact the whole bowl is packed with flavor. Each bowl comes with prawns, fish cakes, beansprouts, laksa leaves and a good serving of sambal chili. The balance of ingredients is just right and best of all they cut up the noodles so that the only thing you need for eating is a spoon.

It’s worth a visit and there are many outlets dotted around Singapore. I was satisfied after having a regular bowl.
I would have prepared a little more soup, but that’s just me wanting more delicious soup.
The Original Katong Laksa Since 1950s (Janggut Laksa) can be found in several locations including at Queensway Shopping Center, Roxy Square, Chinatown Point, etc. Below is the location at Roxy Square.
