A25 Pizzeria Centro – Melbourne – pizza, pasta lunch in the CBD

A25 Pizzeria Centro is located in Melbourne’s central business district along a relatively quiet laneway, Little Collins Street. It’s identity is hard to spot walking along the street, with it easily being part of the background than any foreground. I stumbled across this joint on a lunch stroll by myself, looking for something new, exciting and different. What I found was something that was bustling, had a quick service, and was reasonably well priced.

HighlightsReasonably well priced pizza and pasta dishes to share with friends and colleagues during those busy lunch hours. Their pizzas stand out with their delicious looking toppings and doughy looking bases.
Cost$20 to $40 for pizza or pasta dishes (most of the pasta dishes during the lunch hour are $20)

I stumbled into the restaurant during lunch hour to a packed room. Despite that, I was ushered to a table near the entrance that had been separated from a four seater table. On sitting, my observation was that the servers seemed a bit flummoxed by the busy-ness of the day. (It turned out that the service wasn’t flash, but it wasn’t rude either by the end.) Although I had my order in mind before I walked in, it took another 5 minutes before someone grabbed my order for the Pappardelle Ragu.

Once they had taken my order, I was left looking around at the place all alone on my table near the entrance. The server then come with a green bottle with tap water and a water glass.

The Pappardelle Ragu didn’t take too long to arrive. It was a $20 dish. The plate had some nice streams of pasta and bits of sauce and meat with a nice sprinkle of cheese over the whole thing. I felt the plate could have been a bit more, but accepted it for the price and the desirability at the time for a quick lunch.

The plate was alright in terms of taste and texture. The tomatoes flavours were strongest, while the pasta steams curled up nicely on the fork. I can’t say I was too amazed by the dish.

On finishing, I headed to the pay register to tap and pay, noticing that they added a surcharge to the payment…

I think I should give this place another try and maybe next time give their pizza a chance.
