Window Restaurant – Springvale – Bun Bo Hue $10!?
Window Restaurant in Springvale is in the same location as the old Lim’s Pharmacy location. Lim’s Pharmacy has moved to a more prominent location and it’s a great pharmacy run by Cambodians. I remember my youth visiting this pharmacy as both a customer and a work experience kid. I remember upstairs being where the kids came after school to do homework and as a storage area.
Now Window Restaurant occupies that space. Window Restaurant has been around for some time, but I always avoided it because it seemed disorderly and sketchy. The space looks cramped for everyone, from guests to the servers moving in and out of the kitchen.
The only reason I decided to visit was thanks to my mum. Now I think this is a gem and worth visiting if you want a worthwhile cheap, delicious Vietnamese meal.

Highlights | At $10 a dish, one of the cheapest Vietnamese restaurants in Springvale. Not only cheap, but are tastier and more delicious than so many other restaurants that charge more and provide less. Order Pho, Bun Bo Hue, Broken Rice and more |
Cost | $10 or $15 for most dishes |
Location | 12A Balmoral Avenue, Springvale VIC 3171 |
For a long time, I have seen Window Restaurant during my visits to Springvale. I often walk past it without a second thought. Little did I know that this place is really popular, because of its cheap and delicious meals. I would even say that the meals are so good and delicious that you can ignore any preconceptions you may have about cheap food. The most telling is just how good their main dishes are. For example, there are not many places that do Bun Bo Hue for $10 in a restaurant setting in a big bowl with a decent amount of toppings.
When we visited, we were seated upstairs by walking up the stairs. This restaurant’s upstairs is definitely for larger crowds with their many large, round tables for crowds of 8 or 10 plus people.

There are some café style places in Springvale Central that offer cheaper meals, but this is a restaurant with a larger menu and a better set of offerings. There is also the obligatory jasmine tea that guests can self-serve as well. The only outputting thing is the fact that there is no cohesion to this place, everything is a mismatch. Come only when you want a quick, decent meal – don’t come if its a date.
I was surprised to see things like Pho (Beef), Broken Rice, Beef Brisket with Noodles/Rice, and more for $10. Plus they do some fancier dishes for $15. They also have takeaway deals where you purchase any five dishes and get one free from time to time.

This venue only takes cash, but it was shocking when I ordered five dishes and only handed $50 at the cashier. I would definitely, hands down recommend this place for a family dinner or that quick lunch or dinner. Be prepared to be surprised by the quality and quantity for what you pay – it beats so many more restaurants that do less for more.
